Where do I find the (history, Texas, psychiatry, etc.) section?

Answer

The library organizes it's items with the library of congress classification system (LOC).

  1. Browse the Library of Congress website to find the specific heading for your subject area.
  2. Find your call number heading on our Maps and Floor Plans to get the general location of your subject area.
  3. Remember, the library also has smaller collections in different locations. For example, all Reference items will be on the first floor, and Curriculum and Juvenile materials are on the second floor.

Here is a general outline of the LOC system:

  • A - General Works (Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, etc.)
  • B - Philosophy, Psychology, Religion
  • C - Auxiliary Science of History (Archeology, Genealogy, Biography, etc.)
  • D - World History and History of Europe
  • E - History of the Americas
  • F - Local History of the Americas
  • G - Geography, Anthropology, Recreation
  • H - Social Sciences
  • J - Political Sciences
  • K - Law
  • L - Education
  • M - Music
  • N - Art
  • P - Language and Literature
  • Q - Science
  • R - Medicine
  • S - Agriculture
  • T - Technology
  • U - Military Science
  • V - Naval Science
  • Z - Bibliography, Library Science
